Importance Of Bhagavad-Gita In This Day And Age

importance

Most everyone at some point hears about the Bhagavad-gita, but do they know what it really contains, or how profound and deep is the knowledge that it provides?

Besides being the classic Eastern text that it is, and the summary of most Upanishadic information, it is the core of the deepest levels of spiritual knowledge. It is also like a handbook for life. Just as when you purchase an appliance of some kind, like a refrigerator, television or computer, you get a manual that teaches you how to use it. So in the same way, if God created this world and put us here, doesn’t it seem that He should also tell us what is the purpose of this life and how to use it accordingly? The Bhagavad-gita is such an instruction manual for anyone. It provides the basic answers that most people have about life, and the universal spiritual truths that can be used by anyone, anywhere, and at any time in history. In this way it is timeless.

Has Tolerance Become A Curse For Sanatana Dharma?

Has tolerance become a curse for Sanatana Dharma

Remember the controversy over Aamir Khan’s movie, PK? Our concern here is not to analyse the movie critically but to ask this question: why can’t Aamir Khan be adventurous enough to make a movie that makes fun of Islam and its Prophet Muhammad? Of course, it goes without saying that had Aamir made such a movie, he wouldn’t even be alive to listen to the criticism or praise of such a movie. The secular media and (mostly) Sunni Muslims threw their full weight behind Aamir Khan’s cinematic impudence.

Hindus Are On The Hit List

Hindus are on the hit list

A senior Delhi Police official told me a recently – ‘What you are seeing is only a tip of the iceberg. None of us can really fathom the money and resources put behind this so called attack propaganda. All I will say is that something very ugly is taking shape and Modi has an uphill task as many vested interests feel threatened with India seeming to be growing stronger under his leadership’.

समान अपराध संहिता से इस्‍लाम नष्‍ट नहीं हुआ, लेकिन समान नागरिक संहिता से हो जाएगा!

 Saman Apradh sanhita se

Guess Who Actually Oppresses Christians In India?

Guess Who actually Oppresses Christians in India

At this time of one of the biggest festivals of their mythology, the death and resurrection of their founder-deity, I wish all Christians a happy Easter Sunday. A time of new beginnings, the arrival of Spring, and a Jesus rising from the dead is a metaphor for the revivification of the earth and the beginning of a new cycle. In Kerala, the extraordinary spun gold blooms of the Indian laburnum, kani konna, gladden the heart as we await the Spring festival of Vishu on April 15th.

Secularism is just synonymous with Sanatan Dharma

Secularism is just synonymous with Sanatan Dharma

So often have I stumbled upon Facebook profiles or living creatures that proudly proclaim their being ‘secular’, in the ‘Religion’ section/in a context of that, and I have always wondered, “Isn’t ‘secularism’ an attribute that characterizes states in their approach of treating their citizens equally irrespective of their religion?” In the light of that, extrapolating it to individuals, a secular person would simply mean one who treats humans equally irrespective of their religious affiliations, or the lack of that.

Indra’s Net: Another Masterpiece by Rajiv Malhotra

Indras Net Another masterpiece by rajiv malhotra

There have been some very disturbing developments in recent decades related to Hindu Dharm. For most people who have grown in seemingly free, democratic environment such things would be hard to believe unless confronted with supporting evidence. One such development is the portrayal of Hinduism, as it existed before 18th century, as an incoherent mix of ideologies and that all Hindus owe a deep debt of ‘gratitude’ to the colonial masters to make Hinduism a legitimate religion. Maybe some credit of such distortion could be given to the iconic figures like Swami Vivekanand. At first glance such ideas might sound like ridiculous set of distortions but the implications are truly sinister. If, as portrayed, Hinduism is just a quaint mix of unrelated ideas, it becomes prone to being prey to the fragmentary and predatory tendencies that are in the first place projecting this image. Hinduism is the oldest living religion and like the vast ocean, has incorporated many astic philosophies over the ages. Sadly, this very diversity, expansiveness and openness makes it a challenging job to rebut any wild allegation with superficial evidence. It requires a very dedicated soul committed to the study of core Hindu dharmic principles both in theory and practice. Mr. Rajiv Malhotra is one such man on a mission.
